USS W. S. SIMS was the 8^th KNOX-class frigate. Decommissioned on September 6, 1991, and stricken from the Navy list on January 11, 1995, the W. S. SIMS was finally purchased by Turkey on December 21, 1999.

USS W. S. SIMS was last homeported in Mayport, Fla.

Accidents aboard USS W. S. SIMS:

Date	Where	Events
December 4, 1977	70 miles south of Bermuda	USS W. S. SIMS loses power after a boiler casualty results in the loss of a generator during training exercises. The frigate is able to get underway for Mayport, Fla., after the AINSWORTH (FF 1090) rigs emergency power from alongside.
November 25, 1985	Guantanamo Bay, Cuba	USS W. S. SIMS and USS MOOSBRUGGER (DD 980) collide at sea in the Guantanamo Bay operating area.
