Named after a city in the state of Washington, the USS VANCOUVER was the second RALEIGH - class amphibious transport dock. Decommissioned on March 31, 1992, and stricken from the Navy list on April 8, 1997, the VANCOUVER transfered to the Maritime Administration and is now berthed at the Suisun Bay Reserve Fleet, Benecia, CA, awaiting final disposal. The USS VANCOUVER earned 11 battle stars for service in the Vietnam conflict.
