USS Batfish (SSN 681)

One of the STURGEON - class nuclear-powered attack submarines, the USS BATFISH was the second ship in the Navy to bear the name. Both decommissioned and stricken from the Navy list on March 17, 1999, the BATFISH was subsequently disposed of by submarine recycling at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Bremerton, Wa. Recycling was finished on November 22, 2002.

Accidents aboard USS BATFISH:

January 22, 1973	Charleston, SC.	USS BATFISH suffers bottom damage after running hard aground at Charleston, SC., while proceeding to sea. The submarine is pulled free by tugs and returns to the dock.
